‘Freedom is Recognized Necessity’ @ Stedelijk

At the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam the exhibition ‘Freedom is Recognized Necessity’ highlights a special aspect of the museum’s collection history. Since the 1990s they’ve shown contemporary art from countries belonging to the former ‘Eastern Bloc’ and made purchases from these exhibitions. The works at this exhibition shed light on a number of important themes, such as reflections on the political situation and the suggestive use of symbols. The title of the exhibition refers to the complex relationship between freedom and is an ironic commentary on the lack of freedom under the Soviet dictatorship.

The exhibition can be seen until 12 August 2018 at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
